A federal judge granted a preliminary injunction that prevents Secretary of State Ruth Johnson’s office from requiring citizenship checkboxes on voter ballot applications for the November presidential election.
“It is really a burden on the right to vote in terms of slowing things down, in terms of confusion,” U.S. District Court Judge Paul D. Borman said Friday in a preliminary ruling from the bench.
Johnson’s office has said the state’s voter rolls have as many as 4,000 registered voters who are not U.S. citizens
